Beijing & the Forbidden City

So many food choices at breakfast. By far the best hotel breakfast the whole trip. Also, they called waffles pancakes. Silly Chinese.

Beijing was like one neverending Chinatown. There wasn't really any culture shock, just the feeling that there are a lot of people, everywhere. And motorized bikes on all the things. And so much smog, it was sunny but cloudy all the time. (Other than that, it was a city, so I didn't take many pictures.)

The Forbidden City on the other hand was...who am I kidding, it was so crowded. Large groups of tours, schools, and about a bazillion gates to go through. We Americans became our own tourist attraction--everyone wanted to take photos with us! Little did we know that was only the beginning...

China really loves white people. Here's a school group taking photos of us. I was not the prettiest nor the blondest girl in the group, so I was possibly insulted that no one wanted individual pictures with me, but that got sorted out later on, don't worry.
The Imperial Garden was my favorite part (once I spent 40 minutes finding it), but by then we were on our last bit of energy and didn't get to stay there long.
I found it first when I wandered away from the group and got lost in this maze of mini courtyards, before stumbling on the garden. It was unfortunate I had no one with me to take my picture! There were some fantastic rock formations, with steps cut in them leading up to platforms and little verandas for the emperor and his mistress to moon-watch, and gnarly trees that are 100 or over 300 years old. Then I had some major backtracking to find my way back to the gates and the group, who promptly returned to the garden before disbursing.
I tried to get into the 9 Dragon Screen wall thingy, but I had to pay extra so I got a fan with them on it instead.

Tried green soy bean popsicle. We think that's what the flavor was.
